Our story

The road that became Ramo

People often ask me how Ramo Pro Cycling started. The simple answer is August 2013, when I opened the doors of the shop. But the real story began much earlier.

It began in 1988. I was ten, I wanted to join a cycling group, and I didn’t have a bicycle — so I borrowed my older brother’s shopping bike, took the basket off to make it look a little more like a racing bike, and turned up anyway. Within a few weeks I was racing. At thirteen I earned a place on the national team.

Years later an accident badly damaged my right knee. After several operations I was left in constant pain, and for a long time I didn’t want to ride at all. Then my wife pushed me to pick up an old bicycle. I stripped it down, rebuilt it and took it outside for a test ride — and that ride turned into 40 or 50 kilometres.

Somewhere along those roads I realised cycling didn’t have to be about winning any more. It could be about people.
